Android Fragmentation: Samsung Is Dominant But Will That Always Be The Case?

Fiksu recently measured over 4,700 different types of Android and iOS devices that use its Software Developers Kit (SDK). It then analyzed one of the Apps to develop the following charts to visualize what the Android and iOS landscapes look like which is very similar to one that I included in an August 2 post this year(Note that my family and I own Apple AAPL -1.1% shares).
Overall I believe Android’s fragmentation should benefit Apple, especially if Android becomes more forked (OEMs developing their own versions) which negates them being able to tap into Google GOOG -0.83% Play. However if Samsung and two or three other players become the dominant Android vendors, they don’t fork Android and Google keeps the playing field level with Android development and support (and not favor its own devices) then they should give Apple all it can handle.
